Yes, JTeach Academy is a registered private high school with the Ontario Ministry of Education. We are also an inspected private high school in Ontario which means that we have been granted the authority to grant credits towards the completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
At JTeach Academy we offer 2 different learning formats: Guided Self-Directed Learning and Blended Learning. Summer School courses are only offered as Guided Self-Directed Learning courses, and school year courses may be offered in both formats.
Guided Self-Directed Learning courses involve students completing lessons and assignments according to a set schedule of completion timelines. This allows students some control over their own schedule. Lessons and assignments must be completed in assigned order and students must log in to the JTeach Academy Learning Portal for a minimum amount of time per lesson period. Scheduled online sessions ensure contact between instructors and students. Students may also receive support via email or through scheduled online meetings.
Blended Learning courses follow a more traditional format of learning. Classes are held once per week throughout the school year and alternate in-class and online lessons.
The experiential learning component of the course is our way of ensuring that all of our JTeach Students make meaningful contributions to, and connections with, the Jewish community. This offers the students another opportunity to strengthen their own Jewish identities by becoming a part of something greater than themselves. The experiential learning component counts as 10% of the overall course grade.
JTeach Champions are high school students that are participating in a specialized program where they learn and implement advocacy skills in regards to Israel and antisemitism advocacy, Holocaust education, and/or understanding the Jewish world. Involvement in in these initiatives are a requirement of the JTeach Champion program. For students who are also JTeach Champions, the JTeach Champion initiatives count as completion of their course experiential learning component.
JTeach Academy strongly supports the belief that Judaism and Israel are undeniably connected. Some years, JTeach Academy will offer student trips to Israel. Students who choose to participate in these trips satisfy the experiential learning component of their course. JTeach Academy is also working towards summer school courses that will be combined with extended trips to Israel. The fees for Israel trips are separate from course fees and will be disclosed at the outset of the applicable trip’s announcement.
